I Think I’m Turning Japanese (I Really Think So, Not!) opens Thursday 13th August at the Museum of Comedy, following Sam Joseph’s own experiences living in Japan. Learn more about what you can expect:

1: At what point did you realise your experiences living in Japan could become an intriguing show?

It was performing standup comedy in Japan I started mining my Japanese experiences and they went down really well with Japanese and Gaijin audiences there, and I thought, there’s a show here!

2: After six years in Japan, what surprised you most about everyday life there?

After six years in Japan the most surprising thing about everyday life was how small a space the Japanese could fit a restaurant into

3: Do you ever hold back stories because they’re too personal?

This show has a lot of very personal stories – just come along to hear them all!

4: Language learning features heavily in the show. What’s the rememberable mistake you’ve ever made in Japanese?

The three most memorable mistakes are key highlights of the show, so I don’t want to reveal them here, although one time instead of offering the Toshiba CEO a coffee, I accidentally asked him to get one for me.

5: What’s the biggest challenge performing this production?

The biggest challenge performing this production is talking slowly enough to be understood while balancing on Japanese Geta (that’s shoes, not courtesans)

6: What has been the most enjoyable part about creating I Think I’m Turning Japanese (I Really Think So, NOT!)?

The most enjoyable part about creating Think I’m Turning Japanese (I Really Think So, NOT!) has been turning my life story into something that people genuinely seem to enjoy

I Think I’m Turning Japanese (I Really Think So, Not!) opens Thursday 13th August at the Museum of Comedy. Many thanks to Sam Joseph for answering our questions. Book your tickets here!
