The hit musical has made its way to Thetford!

Jesus Christ Super Star is a musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, following the story of Jesus in the final days of his life. Set to a rock inspired soundtrack, the show is currently running a London production with singer Sam Ryder. Magic Floor Productions is a high-quality theatre group which produce multiple shows every year, with Annie and A Midsummers Night Dream being some of their recent productions. We were eagerly waiting to see them take on this classic musical!

Every piece of this musical has been crafted carefully to create the perfect version of Jesus Christ Super Star. The direction of the piece is effective with brilliant choreography, movement and overall stage presence. Alongside this, the live band were phenomenal at playing this classic score, with addition support from the ensemble. The set is minimal which allows the score to soar: ideal for this musical in particular.

The ensemble bring high-quality vocals and movement throughout the performance. They were incredibly in sync throughout which made for a powerful performance. Alongside them, the Priests worked well together as a quartet: bouncing vocals off each other well. Annas is played by Andy Cunnell, Pontias Pilate is played by Craig Plumley, King Herod is played by Matt Gallis and Caiaphas is played by Dave Griffiths. All four add character to the show in specific moments where they get to shine. In particular, Gallis’ Herod’s song was a fantastic moment in the second half. James Trayton plays Simon Zeolotes and Samuel Trayton plays Peter. Both Traytons have incredibly vocals which they are able to use to sing this dynamic score.

Mary Magdalene is played by Katie Bird. Bird’s vocal performance and acting are consistently exceptional throughout the musical. Her delivery of ‘I Don’t Know How to Love Him’ was particularly powerful. Luke Jeffries plays Judas Iscariot. Jeffries brought strong vocal energy from the beginning with ‘Heavens on Their Minds’ to the end of the show. He embodied Judas and was able to capture his emotional range very well on stage. Jesus Christ is played by Adam Bond. Bond is a phenomenal actor and his role as Jesus was another fantastic performance. From high rock belts and using a mixed pitch, Bond is able to find the intensity in the role and make it his own.

Jesus Christ Super Star continues to run until Saturday 24th October. Book your tickets here!

Tickets for this production were provided complimentary. Many thanks to Magic Floor Productions for organising and we wish you all the best with the remainder of the run!
