With Season 5 right around the corner, I thought I’d take a moment to reflect on Phineas and Ferb—what it means to me and how it has influenced my life.
Phineas and Ferb debuted in 2007, airing shortly after the much-anticipated High School Musical 2. Growing up in a big family, we often took turns choosing movies and shows to watch. My sibling was eagerly awaiting High School Musical 2, so the Disney Channel was on. Before the movie started, the very first episode of Phineas and Ferb aired: Rollercoaster! I remember watching it with my sibling and feeling instantly intrigued by the premise. Two brothers—who, at the time, mirrored my own family situation—creating wild inventions and trying not to get caught by their sister, all while their pet battles a pharmacist. The craziness of it all made us want to watch more.

Phineas and Ferb is such a fantastic show. I love the zany plots and clever humor. As a huge music fan, I was especially drawn to the show’s many musical numbers. Some favorites include ‘Everything’s Better with Perry’, ‘Us Against the Universe’, and ‘Busted’. The characters are so memorable—from Isabella and the Fireside Girls to Meap—each adding something special to the series. Although some say the later seasons lost steam, I believe the show remained consistently entertaining from start to finish. The spin-off, Milo Murphy’s Law, is also fantastic—definitely worth a watch. If you haven’t seen it, check out ‘Chop Away at My Heart’. I also enjoyed the first season of Hamster & Gretel, though I haven’t revisited it yet.
Phineas and Ferb holds many happy memories for me. During the first season, I was living with just one sibling, and we often role-played as the characters, inventing new gadgets and creating adventures. I vividly remember acting out episodes and trying to invent alongside the characters. As we got older and more siblings joined us, our imaginative play continued—sometimes using a disco ball in our bedroom to dance and sing along to the show’s songs. Looking back, it might seem cringy, but at the time, it was empowering and joyful—helping us forget other issues in our lives.

At my core, Phineas and Ferb reminds me of my sibling. Like the two brothers, we grew up together in a somewhat disjointed family. We spent countless hours inventing, imagining, and exploring our small world. We were truly like Phineas and Ferb—me more like Ferb, especially since speech therapy made speaking difficult for me at the time. Without my sibling, I genuinely don’t know how I’d have communicated as they were the only one who understood what I tried to say. I’m very grateful for this as I don’t think I would be the person I am today if it wasn’t for my sibling. We argued like any siblings do, but we always cared deeply for each other. I remember one Christmas when my sibling bought me Phineas and Ferb merchandise—despite a disagreement earlier that day, by the next morning, everything was back to normal. It hurts to know that we don’t have that same close relationship now, but life goes on, and sometimes, you lose touch. Still, I plan to send him links to new episodes of Phineas and Ferb—something we do to reminisce about our childhood and share a laugh. The show continues to bring my joy as I’ve just rewatched parts of it with my partner (it was their first time watching it).
Thank you to Disney Channel, Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, and Dan Povenmire for creating this incredible show. I look forward to what the future holds for Phineas and Ferb and potentially reviewing the new season!
