When I contemplate what makes me lose track of time, one particular hobby sticks out in my mind: theatre. Theatre is a fantastic art form which allows for many different journeys through different cultures, beliefs and histories. Modern day theatre is often seen through plays, musicals and ballets, as well as many other types. I always find them fascinating to watch and time really does just fly (even if I’m watching two in one day). Here are some examples of shows that help you see the magic of the theatre world

Mamma Mia

Novello Theatre, 2025

One of the most joyful shows you could ever watch in my personal opinion. Mamma Mia is a fun comedy that explores relationships, love and trying something new. In London, you can currently see this show running to often sold out audiences each week. Similarly, the upcoming UK tour is selling out very fast. The music is also made by ABBA which is one of the fantastic features of this show: giving a fun, swinging and upbeat track to dance along too whilst in the show. Just make you not to sing along as that is negative behaviour in the theatre

Stranger Things: The First Shadow

The Phoenix Theatre, 2025

As someone who has never seen Stranger Things the TV show, I was unsure what the show was about. However, the play does a fantastic job of exploring the characters and establishing itself as a standalone journey (as I understood what was happening). The special effects used throughout the show are incredible and really feel out of this world. Furthermore, the current cast on the West End give nuance performances: giving you a great exploration of the source material.

Let the People Sing: Les Miserables

Westendtheatre.com, 2025

Les Miserables in a much loved musical theatre show, exploring a revolution in France. Currently, the show is doing a UK tour where they are allowing amateur groups to be part of the action. This is a different experiences than the one found in London as it allows people who may never be professionals, the chance to shine in a show they love! I know in my viewing it was clear how much people enjoyed the show and how much the actors were enjoying their time on stage, whether they were playing Fantine or Marius. If it comes near you on the tour, you have to watch it!

Overall, there are lots of great shows that you can lose track of time in, you should give them all a go!

That is one of the things that makes time fly for me too- musicals are a huge escape for me; they are great fun. They give you excitement, enjoyment, and love when you see them- of course, this only happens with the ones you actually love.

I just love a show! Musicals are so magics and they really are one of my favourite ways to tell a story!

Music is more powerful than words alone- find myself easier to get connected to characters that way

Definitely! The power behind some songs is immense, it wouldn’t be the same without the music

Oh nice. I’ll have a look in a bit, it’s great to meet someone who likes musicals as much as I do

  2. […] We’re big fans of SpongeBob SquarePants and theatre on the blog. SpongeBob offers a lot of innocence and kindness with his undersea antics, and these days the show is incredibly nostalgic with episodes like “SpongeBob and Patrick’s Timeline Twist-Up” taking us back to our childhoods. Theatre offers an experience like no other with the escapism and immersion of it all. Check out why we think theatre is so magical! […]
