Just Dance is the beloved rhythm dancing game series created by Ubisoft. New entries in the franchise are released yearly with a whole new selection of songs to dance along to. In 2010, the creators of Just Dance released a spin-off title called Dance on Broadway. This entry continues the same formula as Just Dance but focuses on 20 hit Broadway songs, promising authentic choreography which will allow the player to feel immersive in the different musicals.
As this game is now 16 years old, I feel that it would be great to revisit this concept with a new Just Dance: Broadway Edition. I’ve compiled a list of 30+ Broadway musicals from which the game could feature songs. To ensure variety, I’ve only chosen one song per show. The songs are divided into four categories (Easy, Medium, Hard and Extreme) which is a staple of the Just Dance franchise. Alongside this, I will discuss the coach (character you dance as), background and choreography.
With that in mind, let’s see what songs await!
Easy Difficulty:
1966 Cabaret – Maybe This Time
Playing as a coach dressed in Sally Bowles inspired outfit, involving a slow dance through the Kit Kat Club itself. As the song continues, the coaches actions become more active and allow for more contemporary choreography.
1987 Les Miserables – On My Own
Set in the background of Paris, the coach is seen walking through the streets which are now empty. The song allows for contemporary choreography, as the coach attempts to dance with different figures who appear as they slowly disappear.
1997 The Lion King – I Just Can’t Wait to be King
With swinging Jazz choreography, three coaches dressed similar to Simba, Pumbaa and Timon journey through the savanna whilst dancing. The song is fun and upbeat, whilst having easy dance moves.
2003 Avenue Q – The Avenue Q Theme Song
A quirky, character comedy dance which is very dramatic and silly. The coach is a puppet which you can copy the arm choreography with, whilst walking through Avenue Q: having different members of the neighbourhood joining in within the background.
2016 Dear Evan Hansen – Waving Through a Window
A coach walks through the hallways at school as individuals are seen through ‘windows’, with the coach dressed as Evan. This breaks into a contemporary dance, allowing us to journey through the song.
