Tom Hobbes and Haydn Hades are bringing their chaotic version of the apocalypse to the Camden Fringe with their show Fathering in the Age of the Apocalypse.
Fathering in the Age of the Apocalypse is a two-man show in which two contrasting but instantly likeable personalities clash as they attempt to decide which elements they want to include in the show itself. This meta approach is interesting, as it throws the audience into the lives of Tom and Haydn, while also giving us glimpses into their creative process. Tom, a quiet stand-up comedian, and Haydn, a wild musician, are a brilliant duo. Together, they point out the absurdity of our day-to-day lives and the world’s political landscape, capably turning both into sources of laughter.
The contrast between Tom and Haydn is one of the show’s greatest strengths. Their different approaches to comedy create a constant tension that energises the show. Likewise, their playfulness and desire to go along with each other’s ideas keep the performance unpredictable. The concept and its delivery are effective, but some refinement is needed to make the story a bit clearer. Despite this, the chemistry between Hobbes and Hades keeps the show engaging, and their willingness to embrace the chaos generates some genuinely funny moments.
