Phuckets and Rainbows opens Friday 9th October at the Lower Marsh Arts Club, following one woman’s wildly honest ride. Learn more about what you can expect:

1: Where did the inspiration for Phuckets and Rainbows come from?

Phuckets and Rainbows is an autobiographical show… and so the inspiration for the story, is simply living!! I also work in mental health, and the show really is a means to help people get access to some beautiful messages! Messages that help us to see, that imperfection is simply human… and we don’t need to be anything else

2: After the Edinburgh Fringe, has anything changed in the production?

Yes. The Ed fringe was a beautiful and brilliant experience, sprinkled with a smidge of stress! But what the experience did, was help me to hook the story better! Weave the chapters in a way that made more sense! I mean, the show has been met with so much love, but it now feels like it flows better for me, as a performer.

3: The show explores freedom and self love. What do those things mean to you?

We live in a world where we are very rarely celebrated unless we achieve stuff the systems deem important. For so many of us, that means we never get told… that we are enough. And so for me… freedom means to not have my worth attached to any external measure… it can be hard, but that’s where the Phuckets come in! I try to live, like a toddler… wobbly thighs, squishy body, and No shits to give about it! And self love… means, being relentlessly compassionate! To all that you are! The imperfections, the mistakes, the not so goods… and basically treating yourself like you treat the people you love most in the world! I’d argue, it’s not an “eureka” moment, more a forever kinda promise, to try your best.

4: What does being “free” actually look like in everyday life?

It means… living a life, you’d live, if no one was watching. Wearing the clothes, eating the foods, dancing, singing and making those dreams, into real time! A life that the little version of ourselves never doubted… and our older selves, will be so proud we did!

5: Why are we so uncomfortable with admitting that we don’t have everything together?

That’s a big question. And I guess we all have our reasons. But for me, it was a case of thinking, if I let people really see me… they will realise that I am not as “good” as they believe… fear of being found out… so scary! But these whispers were old traumas… shame can be so bloody awful!! And actually, it was letting people see I was imperfect… that made me the person I am today! Not playing a part, but living true! In the mess and magic of what it is to be human

6: What has been the most enjoyable part about creating Phuckets and Rainbows?

The magic I share with the audience is a bloody joy! The hugs. The thanks yous. The “me toos”. The shared moments, bringing so much healing alchemy!! For us all… That has been the greatest gift of all! The collective sigh… and the Phuckets… as people question, whether, perhaps, they are more possible than the world has ever told them
