The production is written by Joanna Murray-Smith who weaves the thrilling aspects and clues together to create a powerful and poignant piece of theatre. Owen Calvert-Lyons is able to direct this effectively through the production. Lighting design is from Sally Ferguson, whilst set, costume design is credit to Richard Kent and Eleanor Isherwood designed the sound. The set design is sleek, modern and spacious: utilising the space perfectly when combined with dynamic lighting and sound. The use of imagery of the background allows for existential moments which narratively build tension well. In addition, Lucy Farrant is credited for Stage Manager On Book, Rebecca J Rawlinson-Allen as Wardrobe Supervisor, Iona Hicks as Assistant Stage Manager and Zoe Fox as producer. This creative team have worked collaboratively to produce a strong thriller piece of theatre.
Jamie Sayers plays Edward Ridgeway, a young man eager to persuade Highsmith to finish her Ripley series. Edward starts more uncertain and slowly transitions to being more cynical and maniacal through the piece. Sayers captures both sides of this character excellently, with differentiated mannerism that feels naturally paced. Catherine Russell plays Patricia Highsmith, the popular author who has isolated herself 1995 society to live in The Swiss Alps. Highsmith is a complex character who is exploring herself throughout the play: though she may be unaware of this. Russell is able to embody the sarcastic, witty side of the character: encouraging lots of laughs from the audience. She is also able to authentically capture the emotional moments, making for a great contrast. Both Sayers and Russell work effectively together, with strong dynamics between the two of them.
