Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a jukebox musical based on the 1994 film of the same name. The story follows the drag queen Tick/Mitzi (Kevin Clifton) go on a road trip using the Priscilla bus alongside fellow drag queen Felicia/Adam (Nick Hayes) and Bernadette, a trans woman (Adéle Anderson). On the road, the group celebrate their love and unity, whilst also coming across lots of characters such as Bob (Peter Duncan) who learn the values of being unapologetically yourself. Priscilla Queen of the Desert has been a musical smash hit throughout the many years it has been on and we’re very glad it has landed in Norwich ready to celebrate this spring!

The show is full of colour, quite literally, with lots of colourful sets and costumes. Each time the ensemble came out, they were showing off a new fantastic outfit which fit the scene perfectly. Alongside this, the drag outfits were fun, energetic and lively: adding energy into each performance within the show. Lighting was used perfectly around the stage to help empower each scene, adding value to each scene. To complement this, Priscilla Queen of the Desert consists of classic popular songs which help to bring the magic of the world alive. It is also worth mentioning Priscilla herself, the bus. Priscilla is a well made set piece and is used effectively but can be difficult to see the inside off in certain angles, though this is only ever for a limited time.

Duncan as Bob was used effectively to help build on the other characters. As someone who befriends the group, he makes for some tender scenes alongside Anderson. Anderson as Bernadette was comedic genius throughout the show. She often allowed for the most laughter and was hilarious with her line delivery. She was also able to keep up in dance routines really well, which was great to see. Her relationship with Duncan helped make some of the more tender moments of the show shine! Hayes as Adam/Felicia stood out as the most self confident within themselves. His solo songs, especially his introduction song, were incredibly uplifting and fun. He also had a great hater dynamic with Anderson which made it a pleasure to watch. Clifton as Mitzi/Tick was the heart of this group, allowing the journey to beginning by attempting to meet his son. Clifton is an excellent dancer and this shows in Priscilla Queen of the Desert: alongside some fantastic acting too!
