A heartfelt and brutally honest look at love, cultural differences, and growing apart, Love Me Tomorrow is running at the Barons Court Theatre as part of the Camden Fringe.
Written and directed by Bianca de Leon and Ruby Scott, Love Me Tomorrow tells the down-to-earth story of Alma and Noah, a couple going through different phases of their relationship. Without following a linear structure, the show takes us through numerous moments in their time together, gradually revealing how their relationship develops, changes, and adjusts.
The realism at the heart of the story is what makes it such a compelling watch. Alma and Noah are not extraordinary characters living extraordinary lives. They are a normal couple dealing with everyday situations, disagreements, insecurities, and flaws that will feel familiar to many. This makes their story particularly relatable, and for couples seeing the show together, it may even trigger some uncomfortable but necessary conversations.
The cast chosen to bring this story to the stage was excellent. Davida Opoku and William Harvey played Alma and Noah, respectively. Their acting did a lot to make their relationship feel genuine. They were also effective at manifesting what each of their characters were thinking or feeling, even when they were not saying it out loud.
The set design was homely and added to the realism of the show. It contributed to making the audience believe that Noah and Alma are everyday people living ordinary lives. The lighting design was also effective at setting apart the different scenes of the show, which was particularly important whenever the story would go back and forth in time.
