This whimsical tale arrives at Haslemere Hall with a splash of colour!
Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is the classic tale of Joseph put on stage with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. The story follows a young man named Joseph as he is betrayed by his siblings and eventually rises to the top. The musical is beloved by all, with its wonderful music and story. Imagine That Productions is a Community Interest Company running since 2016. The company specialises in classical, operetta and musical theatre: offering local singers a professional level of opportunities to perform. This was felt throughout the production, with a cast that were incredibly professional throughout, aided by wonderful lighting, set and music.
Philip O’Brien directs with enthusiasm and excitement. The show effortlessly moves through the story and this shows O’Brien’s dedicated to producing such high-quality entertainment. Sarah Young conducts which supports the brilliant singing on stage. Choreography from Reece Millard is fun, upbeat and energetic: making you want to dance along which is perfect for this musical. Kevin Wright’s work on lighting and technical direction is incredible, feeling very grand and fun. Alongside this, a strong creative team has supported in making this show the strong production it is today: congratulations to all!
The wives were great in their roles, being able to act dramatically during Joseph’s death and joining in with choreography well. Similarly, the choir was comprised on very talented young actors: they sounded fantastic. The brothers were a strong group of performers, being able to dance and sing together very well. Overall, this supporting cast were very strong and their hard work was felt in audience.
Georgina Mae and Cyrus Dellal Hutton both play a range of roles. Mae and Hutton have fantastic stage presence for their ages, alongside clear vocals and great enthusiasm. Nicky Ruutel plays Mrs Potiphar amongst other roles. Ruutel was a great edition to the cast and brought an energetic performance. John Deacon plays Potiphar amongst other roles. Deacon moved between roles with confident.
Nick Carrick plays Jacob, the father to the 12 men. Carrick was able to capture the paternal side of Jacob well, having strong dynamics with the his sons. Dan Wigmore plays Judah, as well as the snake. Wigmore was a standout, often leading the brothers in the songs vocally. His high energy, fantastic vocals and dynamic acting was all on display. Ricky Dyer plays Pharoah, as well as Reuben. Dyer embodied his inner Elvis in his performance, being charismatic throughout.
Wilfred Mee plays Joseph, the titular character of the musical. Mee is extremely talented, leading the show with confidence on stage. His vocals were fantastic, especially in ‘Any Dream Will Do’ and ‘Close Every Door’. He was the perfect pick to lead the production. Alongside Mee, Scarlet O’Brien plays the Narrator, guiding the audience through the story. O’Brien was another stunning performance, exploring the choreography and having incredible vocals, especially in ‘Jacob and Sons’. Both O’Brien and Mee make the show the standout performance you’d be unlucky to miss!
