Agents prepare, this Award-winning musical has arrived in Norwich!
Operation Mincemeat is the award-winning Olivier new musical that has been taking the world by storm. Written by David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson and Zoë Roberts, the story follows M15 agents as they develop operation mincemeat to trick the Germans. With catchy songs and a moving story full of humour, the musical has become popular in the Westend and on Broadway. After watching it previously, we were anticipating the arrival of this operation in Norwich!
Robert Hastie directs this piece with passion and conviction: understanding what works and implementing this into the production. Alongside Hastie, other creatives include Jenny Arnold for choreography, Ben Stones for set and costume design, Mark Henderson for lighting design, Mike Walker for sound design and Steve Sidwell for orchestration. The creatives have created a show full of humour, heart and brilliant musical numbers.
Though we had a delay, the cast came out and gave a fantastic performance. Jean Leslie & Others are played by Molly Cutter. Cutter was able to bring the confidence to Jean, with a great number in ‘All the Ladies’.
Hester Leggatt & Others are played by Christian Andrews. Andrews brings Hester to life with such care, with outstanding vocals during ‘Dear Bill’: a show stopping moment. Johnny Bevan & Others are played by Jamie-Rose Monk. Monk is able to play the Colonel with conviction and worked well alongside Carey and Sumpton. Charles Cholmondeley & Others are played by Seán Carey. Carey is able to capture the comedic moments of Charles on stage, excelling in this humour. Ewen Montagu & Others are played by Holly Sumpton. Sumpton embodies the over confidence of Ewen, with great chemistry with the other cast members.
Operation Mincemeat continues to run until Saturday 10th October. The production is sold out so keep an eye out for returns!
Tickets for this production were provided complimentary. Many thanks to Norwich Theatre Royal for organising and we wish you all the best with the rest of the run!
