A new rendition of a classic story of good and evil!
Jekyll and Hyde is a classic story which most of us have read in our childhood. This version of the show is adapted by Neil Bartlett. The show focuses on Dr Stevenson who finds herself in charge of the mysterious case of Jekyll and Hyde. This production has been made in accordance with the Norwich Players in the Maddermarket Theatre (where Wedding Singer was earlier in the year). Moreover, this play was directed by Jeneseka Alexander. I personally love the story of Jekyll and Mr Hyde, having read the story as a child: making me excited to watch this production. So how was the performance?

The set is perfect for the time period and allows the actors plenty of opportunity to shine. Similarly the lighting and sound affects worked very well to build on the atmosphere.
The acting was commendable by all and it is a unique twist of the classic tale, with lots of opportunities to play different characters. A few honourable mentions go to Caitlin Woolrich as Dr Stevenson, Christopher Neal as Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, as well as Rhian Brooke as an ensemble of characters. Brooke really embodied her characters and made me chuckle quite a few times, which was good during a darker show. Woolrich works well as the lead investigate in the case, whilst having the longest stage presence. She was incredible varied in her role and showed great care in her craft. However, Neal really stole the show. Playing the titular characters is always a pleasure and he really does both sides justice. I specifically really liked his Mr Hyde, giving a sinister performance.
