The Addams Family The Musical at The Carnegie Thetford Review

The most iconic family in media history are back in Thetford for a limited run!

The Addams Family musical is a brilliant piece, with music written by Andrew Lippa. The show focuses on Wednesday Addams who falls in love with Lucas, keeping this a secret from her unconventional family. Meanwhile the rest of the family are dealing with their own secrets and drama. But with a family dinner soon to take place, are the Addams able to withstand their spooky behaviours and act ‘normal’?

Magic Floor Production has put this piece together and always deliver a brilliant show! I’ve loved their previous shows so was very excited for this one as I love this musical. The set, costumes and lighting were all spot on and really enabled the audience to feel immersed in the show.

The ensemble inhabit the dead Addam family members so well. It’s so fun that each one is different and allows for some fun moments. Craig Plumley plays Lurch and is able to become the character. With limited dialogue, he was still able to stand out in his scenes. Similarly, Emma Crampton as Grandmama was very fun. She was very quirky and insane: perfect for the character. Erin Clinton was also great as Pugsley, being a fun little brother in the show. The Beineke family were also brilliant. I especially enjoyed Katie Bird, an actress I’ve seen many a time, show such range in ‘Full Disclosure’. She was amazing!

The stand out performances belong to Amber Pullen as Wednesday, James Trayton as Uncle Fester, Beck Powell as Morticia and Sam Trayton as Gomez. Pullen does a beautiful rendition of ‘Pulled’: on par with Carrie Hope Fletcher’s performance! James Trayton is great as Fester, being that friendly uncle who is quirky and fun (especially when he sings to his moon girlfriend). Powell gives a devious and cunning performance as Morticia. She really understands what to do and her dancing was on point. Sam Trayton was the stand out performance for me. Allowing him to be the centre of this quirky family was ideal! He is amazing at most things, and this show lets him shine.
