The Band at The Angles Theatre Wisbech Review

A highly anticipated rendition of a musical which is you will just never forget!

The Band is a heartfelt new musical which features the songs of the iconic boy band Take That. Instead of the story being autobiographical, we see a unique story where the boy band are intertwined between. The story focuses on a group of 5 young girls, excited and overly obsessed with a boy band. However, we then skip forward many years to the adult versions of the women. With the boy band guiding their journey, has time changed them or are they still as tight as ever?

The Angles Theatre in Wisbech has always been a fantastic venue that I’ve enjoyed visiting. I’ve seen many musicals here, such as Beauty and the Beast and Tick Tick Boom!. Each show has been carefully crafted perfectly to match the environment and they always deliver great vocals. As someone who has seen The Band before, I was very excited to see how this performance goes too!

The set is effective for the production, allowing for fun pieces of action and drawing us well into the setting. Similarly, the lighting and music were both working really well and added some great ambiance to the production. The ensemble were very fun, looking prepared for each scene and role they were in. They really added value to the show overall, making the world more believable.

Danielle, Melissa, Natalia, Maddie and Aimee portray the younger girls before the time skip. Due to a particular plot point, these girls had some very serious scenes to show. I’m glad to say they smashed it out of the park, making me and other audience members feel lots of emotions towards their characters. They also had some of the best dance sequences in the show, and overall looked like they were loving the show: beaming with energy to the audience!

Samantha, Abby, Laura-Jayne and Sara-Jane portray the girls in the future. Again, due to a particular plot point; these women had some difficult scenes. However; they did a fantastic job at weaving through these, making each one very believable. I also think that they were great at making the characters similar to their younger versions. They also had some brilliant vocals and dancing which was very great to see!

Harry, Josh, Rowan, Liam and Ewan portray the popular boy band which helps guide us along this story. All five of them looking like they were living their boy band fantasy and this came across very well to the audience. Their vocals were supreme and really delivered on some classic Take That music. Similarly, their costumes changes were fun, unique and embodied the style of boy bands from the 90s.

The Band is on till Saturday. Make sure you book your tickets now: you’ll never forget it!
