Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift at Norwich Theatre Royal Review

Murder has struck the countryside, all eyes are on finding the killer!

Based loosely on the acclaimed tv show, Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift follows the murder of Emily Simpson as she is found dead in her perfect village of Badger’s Drift. Her friend Lucy Bellringer refuses to believe the murder was accidentally and seeks help from DCI Tom Barnaby and Sergeant Gavin Troy to solve the case. With lots of surprises, twists and shocking revelations along the way, Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift intends to keep audiences on the end of their seats.

The story was gripping and intriguing throughout, keeping us eagerly engaged as the show progressed. Throughout the performance, the set proved to be beautifully crafted with a very quaint village atmosphere. It was worked incredibly well to be immersed into the work of Midsomer Murders. The plot is well made, with fun characters and twists I didn’t see coming: leaving me genuinely intrigued for Act 2.

The characters themselves were very fun, bubbly and entertaining to watch. Hearing each of the alibis, as well as learning about the characters themselves was greatly received and worked well. It felt quite natural whilst also keeping the themes of Midsomer Murders. I think the Sergeant and DCI helped to keep the show grounded and follow the story along. Going into Act 2, I was thinking quite heavily about who the murder was which is always good in a murder mystery show.
