This hilarious new comedy has opened to the delight of audiences in Newmarket!
Drinking Habits 2 is a play by Tom Smith. It follows the same characters established in ‘Drinking Habits’. This time, the nuns are eager to save the orphanage that Kate and Paul grew up in. To do this, they decide to stage a play: though this goes terribly awry. Newmarket Kings Theatre is a brilliant location to stage this show, with a fantastic cast in this Nomads production.

Val Quy directs this production and has developed a hilarious show. The set is clearly designed to be used in multiple locations, giving the show a great base to work from. Similarly, the lighting is well used: especially with the lights which shone between the doors. The costumes were well considered, allowing for changes between the play itself and the play within the play. Drinking Habits 2 has a joyful plot which had the audience laughing throughout, having lots of traditional comedy moments (such as character hiding) which were perfectly executed.

Elize Collins plays Kate. Kate is pregnant throughout this play and this is used well in her comedy. Collins is able to make great decisions in her characterisation; allowing for an entertaining performance. Eric Lampaert plays Paul. Paul is eager to become a reverend but ends up directing the play. Lampaert gets to explore different emotions with his character, getting to be the voice of reason: helping balance the cast really well. Matthew Meehan plays George. George is the father of Kate’s twins. Meehan has brilliant comedy timing and this is evident within this production: often making the audience laugh with his lines. Marion Hadley plays Sister Augusta and April Murfet plays Sister Philomena. Both sisters set up a scheme to restart making wine. Both Hadley and Murfet work well as a comedy duo, whilst getting opportunities to shine independently too. Allye Workman plays Sally Andrews. Sally is Paul’s ex and is hiding from him throughout the show. Workman was able to participate within some of most humorous scenes, capturing this role perfectly. Kate Nolan plays Mother Superior. Due to a misunderstanding, Mother Superior starts to not sleep. Nolan is able to portray such a diverse, fun and engaging character throughout the show: having a great time playing Mother Superior. Chris Brighty plays Father Chemille. Father Chemille is eager to add magic to the play. Brighty has a charismatic approach to his role, radiating positivity from the stage. The whole cast work together very well to create the magic of the show: well done all involved!
