The captivating experience of dance is brought to life!

Songs of the Bulbul is a new dance piece, with Aakash Odedra leading the production. The choreography was created by Rani Khanam with musical direction from Rushil Ranjan. Alongside this, Emanuele Salamanca, Fabiana Piccioli and Kanika Thakur are also credited as creatives. The production is inspired by the ancient Sufi myth of a bulbul songbird being held captured. Following this narrative, the production navigates a spiritual journey of Sufism whilst being moving for audiences.

This production uses vivid imagery to portray the story of the bulbul bird. Rose petals were used effectively throughout the piece, making for some powerful moments towards the end. The lighting was phenomenal, allowing intense moments whilst also feeling heartwarming in others. Odedra’s stamina was commendable as he captured the audience from the start of the show. The way he moved was graceful, whilst also being able to dedicate emotional strength to key scenes.

Songs of the Bulbul has now finished touring the UK. Keep an eye out for upcoming events from the Aakash Odedra Company!

Tickets for this production were provided complimentary. Many thanks to The Arts Theatre Cambridge and the Aakash Odedra Company for inviting us.
