The Alternative to Living, an experimental play that asks philosophical questions about our own lives, has haunted the Camden Fringe this week.

Written by Fenn Telfer and directed by Jess Cooper, The Alternative to Living is an interactive production that explores our relationships with technology, with each other, and with ourselves. Set against the backdrop of a paranormal story, the play delivers a dark and unsettling experience that raises important questions about the world we live in.

Menna Noble, Izzy Law, and Lorenzo Condemi bring the show’s characters to life. As the story unfolds, the play suggests that each performer may be portraying more than one character, as they rapidly switch personalities during possession scenes. They do this convincingly, allowing the audience to become part of the story.

The acting throughout the performance was consistently strong, although some scenes that involved screaming may have come across as too loud, given the dimensions of the venue. The script could benefit from some refinement to ensure its core ideas are transmitted more clearly. Even so, The Alternative to Living is an engaging and memorable theatrical experience.

We attended the show on its last performance at the Camden Fringe. Keep an eye out for whenever the show surfaces again!

Tickets to attend The Alternative to Living were provided complimentary. We wish the show all the best for the future.
