Get prepared for… anything to happen!
Tales From The Wasteland is an improvised post-apocalyptic adventure comedy show currently playing at the Hen & Chickens Theatre as part of the Camden Fringe. This shows follows a group of wastelanders who take one single suggestion from the audience and craft the entire show based on this. With no pre-prepared characters, story or dialogue, anything is possible which makes it very intriguing. Set in the wasteland (akin to Mad Max, The Last of Us and Fallout), the show has some dark themes which may not be suitable to certain audiences. Every night is a different storyline which makes it thrilling as you never know what will be performed. Tonight (21/8/26) the note refers to being a ‘toff’ (a rich, upper-class individual). Using this information, the cast created the idea of monocles and playing polo. From this, came a completely crazy but hilarious and somewhat cohesive story which had each cast member join in. I was also very impressed with the ability to bring story beats back later on in the show, which helped making it a well rounded story.
The cast are phenomenal with the ability to improvise on the spot. Ideas seem to pour out of them as they come up with storylines I did not except. I also feel that the show requires a lot of trust between the cast, as they bring others into their stories. This teamwork was great to watch, as well as watching the cast have as much fun as the audience. I’d be fascinated to attend again to see where the story goes next time, as well as giving it a go myself!
