A hilarious night of having no clue what will happen next, Giddy Aunt Improv brings big laughs to Aces and Eights.
Giddy Aunt Improv is everything you could want from a comedy improv show and more. For an hour, the audience laughed non-stop with the five performers who were constantly thrown into one ridiculous situation after another. They were hilarious, quick-witted, and willing to have fun in every possible way. The audience is not laughing at them, but with them; they seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as we were.
The group we saw was composed of clearly seasoned performers, as you can see how well they all work individually and as a group. In some cases, just a glance between them was all they required to know exactly how to continue a scene or carry a song forward. Their talent for comedy is undisputed. At times, some of the jokes and interactions were so perfectly timed that it was hard to believe they had not been rehearsed, despite the fact that the audience was providing the suggestions on the spot.
An interesting element to the performance was that it included a keyboard player who would aid the improv group during singing segments. What made this especially impressive was that the keyboard player was improvising just as much as the performers. As the audience suggested different situations and contexts, the keyboard player had to invent melodies on the spot while simultaneously responding to the lyrics being created simultaneously by the other performers.
Overall, attending this performance of Giddy Aunt Improv was a fantastic experience and definitely a highlight of the Camden Fringe. We attended Giddy Aunt Improv on its one-night only performance as part of the Camden Fringe. We wish all the best in the future to the team behind this production.
