Doomscrolling
Dance Film – Tay

Doomscrolling explores the complexities of the addictiveness of scrolling on your phone. Through the piece, we start to learn how this can consume someone’s life and the impact this may lead too. With a mixture of noise and dance, the piece is effectively able to explore this experience through an interesting lens. The piece is very artistic with symbolic fast movements to symbolise doomscrolling perfectly. I especially enjoyed Tay’s facial progression which helped portray the effect doomscrolling has.
No Traveller Returns
Special Film – Xiaohan Luo

No Traveller Returns is a special piece of art that explores how time moves on but perception doesn’t necessary follow this. Exploring sound, memory and your body can become unstable and fragmented. The environments recorded were reflective, working well to make the audience think existentially. The use of blur motion elevated the themes of the pieces.
Amblyopia
Animated Film – Zijing Chen

Amblyopia is an animated piece that is experimental in nature. Starting as a still interior, it follows imagination as the world begins to change. With colours and symbols, the piece is rather unique in approaching ideas around the inner mind. The music and visuals were stunning, being fast but capturing different elements well. Though it was on the shorter side, the piece stood out for its unique artistic imagery.
Giants’ Anatomy
Sci-Fi Film – Hantao Li

Giants’ Anatomy is a Sci-Fi piece which explores the decommissioned North Sea platforms. The film does this by implementing real-world footage alongside computer generated images to understand the future for these locations. Asking audiences to contemplate the future, the film is effectively able to explore these concepts. The piece felt poignant as we explore the past of the platforms and what came to be. Symbolising life in this way, rather than through human existence, was unique and there was significant passion behind the project.
