The Last Supper Club
Black Comedy – Lydia Vie represents Theatre Lab Company

The Last Supper Club invites audiences into the lives of Beatrice and Edith was have been preparing for the end of the world: declaring it is today. Whilst preparing for this apocalyptic event, the women discuss humanity and whether anyone is ready for their future. As a dark comedic two-handler, this production is able to capture the essence of death everyone’s future whilst mixing comedy: a difficult balance that was successful.
Both actors on stage had great chemistry together, with interesting conversation about the end of the world. I enjoyed the oddity of the characters and this helped enjoy the production. The dialogue is well written and the characters are unique, though I wonder if more comedy needs to be included to help balance the dark and comedic moments. However, the humour is strong at times.
Echo of the Moon
Puppetry – Aqiong Zhang, Blanka Szentandrássy

Echo of the Moon is a beautifully created puppet production that illustrates the journeys of constructing identities through what we inherit. The story follows a stubborn puppet who meets object beyond their imagination. Whilst getting to know the object; they craft the same rhythm and grow as individuals.
The puppetry was brilliant, feeling lighthearted and joyful with stronger emotional exploration underneath. Overall, the story was well developed with musical cues and movement that felt unique to the storytelling technique used. As well as this, the puppet itself looked very well crafted!
Muerto En Vida
Audio Visual – Jesu Piceno, Ester Ricci

Muerto En Vida brings together experimental sound, improvisation and other elements to create an immersive environment with each element complementing each other to create atmosphere as one composition.
The piece was unique with the inclusion of different artistic elements, making for a special viewing experience. I enjoyed the use of experimental sound to explore the piece and it helped create an intriguing atmosphere. The lighting was also very atmospheric, with the use of fabric to be the projection being a clever technique.
As We Lay Dying was a fascinating event and we look forward to seeing some of the projects develop further!
Tickets for this production were provided complimentary. Many thanks to Haiyun Zheng for organising for us to attend. We hope everyone had a great weekend of art!
