Funeral Song

Opening Performance – Fraser Scowen and Ziyue Wang

The collaboration between Scowen and Wang opens the performance for the afternoon of Day 2. Funeral Song explores endings through an electronic performance that weaves in and out of the afterlife. The piece moves in the unknown to explore the links between the material and life.

This production came on straight away after the films which was intriguing, adding new surround sounds to the venue. The pitch would go high and low, at times being a mixture of both which was surprising to hear. It felt very surrealistic and worked well to open the live performances.

Alstroemeria

Audio Visual – Ben Thorn, Rysia Kaczmar and Theo Power

Alstroemeria is named after a flower and explore sound as a form of interdependence. The piece explores an evolving and changing landscape where sounds complement each other: making way for changes and development. As we journey through growth to withering, the piece elegantly reflects life, with the understandable that life is forever transforming.

The use of audio visual to interpret this information was a clear and unique feature of this piece. As the sound changed, we felt the impactful way life weaves in and out. I wonder if the audio could be paired with visuals to represent this, though I understand that would change the storytelling technique on show, which does work well.
